HowGood regularly updates metrics and data sources according to the latest scientific research and industry-recognized methodologies.

These updates may affect the impact data of your products and ingredients. In order to avoid disrupting your workflows and reporting timelines, these updates are not automatically applied to products. You must refresh the impact data of your products to incorporate the updates.

What are the different types of updates that affect impact data

Generally, the updates that affect impact data will be related to research updates which you can track in the HowGood Research Updates log. The Research Updates log will cover the first two types of updates below.

  1. Updates to data sources

HowGood employs an iterative approach to assessing and updating data sources. Our Research team is constantly reviewing the latest findings from scientific publications and assessing new data sources. As we find updated or higher quality impact data for specific crops, locations, and agricultural standards or practices, our sustainability database is updated accordingly.

  2. Updates to metrics

HowGood develops and updates impact metrics in accordance with the latest industry frameworks, methodologies, and regulations. The Product Carbon Footprinting methodology is also reviewed periodically to ensure alignment with the Carbon Trust Certification's standards and requirements. Therefore, as new guidance or updates to reporting requirements arise, metrics are updated accordingly.

  3. Changes to a nested ingredient's formula

If the original formula of an ingredient is edited, the edits are not automatically applied to products that include this ingredient. Because formula edits may affect impact data for the ingredient, any products that include this ingredient should be refreshed to reflect the updates.

How to refresh impact data

You can identify when products may have updated impact data and refresh. them on the main Products list or within each individual Product profile page.
